Boeing Event

Sliders

What is a slider? It is a miniature roll with something magnificent and wonderful in between. Pulled pork sliders, buffalo burger sliders, beef brisket sliders, smoked salmon sliders, Jamaican jerk chicken sliders...the sky is the limit!

Recently we had a party for Boeing here at the Edward D. Hansen Event Center for about 800 Boeing Team Members. When we gave them the tour, up in the Octane Lounge we discussed what Boeing was all about. They are a global, culturally diverse corporation that makes amazing airplanes. My mind was racing with ideas and I suddenly threw out the idea of a “Flight” of sliders from around the world. Flights are really popular- back in the 80’s we would go to the Soho Kitchen and Bar in New York and get flights of beers from around the world. So, I thought, why not a flight of sliders from around the world? They LOVED it! They then arranged for US to have a completely awesome tour of the largest plant in the world located right here in Everett. We walked over five miles and Bill, our tour guide, was such a great guy and he did an incredible job on the tour. And both Lynette and Debbie were a pleasure to work with.

Boeing has facilities all over the world, and they picked four of their large international plants so we started in the United States. We made pulled pork and apple slaw sliders on little Hawaiian rolls with my Sweet Sassy Molassy barbecue sauce representing the United States and North Carolina. We then “flew” across the Atlantic Ocean to Great Britain where we did bangers (Sausages) and caramelized onions with Coleman’s mustard on mini brioche rolls. We then proceeded to fly to Germany where we presented sliced sauerbraten with bacon gravy on onion brioche rolls. From there it was on to Scandinavia where we whipped up my house made Gravlax- cold smoked salmon and lemon caper cream cheese on egg brioche rolls. The crowd went wild!

Probably the funniest part of the entire event was the execution of my vision of putting little flags on skewers of each country, then skewering each individual slider. We made over 400 sliders of EACH country so I had to make over 1600 little flag labels, then peel them and wrap them around 1600 bamboo skewers! This involved much cutting and pasting in the Avery label program- believe me! With the assistance of my most awesome GM Randy Olson and four of my dedicated Team Members we pulled it off! The visual was incredible as you can see by the pictures. The event was a huge success and the Boeing Team was awesome to be around. I hope we get to do more fun events for them in the future.
